Baharat Shakshuka Yorkies

A creative twist on traditional shakshuka, this dish combines the classic flavours of Baharat-spiced tomatoes with the convenience of frozen Yorkshire puddings. Baked with eggs and topped with cheese, this fusion dish is the perfect balance of Middle Eastern spices and British comfort food. Serve it with a sprinkle of fresh coriander and a drizzle of chili sauce for added heat.

  • 1 tin of tomatoes or passata
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp Baharat seasoning

Directions

  1. In a pan, empty the tinned tomatoes or passata and add 1 tablespoon of Baharat seasoning along with a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Add your favorite chili sauce for extra heat if desired.
  2. While the sauce is cooking, place the frozen Yorkshire puddings on a baking tray. Crack an egg into each pudding and season the egg with a pinch of salt and Baharat seasoning.
  3. Spoon some of the thickened tomato sauce over each Yorkshire pudding and sprinkle with your choice of cheese.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 8-12 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked to your liking and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with extra Baharat seasoning, and garnish with freshly chopped coriander.
  6. Serve hot with an optional drizzle of chili sauce for an extra kick.
