Cuban Slow Cooked Pork Buns

The bold Latino flavours of our Cuban seasoning are the star of the show in these succulent slow roasted pork rolls. Throw in an epic black bean mix and a drizzle of Red Dawg Hot Sauce and you have yourself a meal that’s totally que rico!

ingredients

For the Cuban seasoned slow cooked Pork:

  • 1.5kg pork shoulder
  • 3 tbsp Cuban seasoning
  • 4 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock

For the Black Beans:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 can (400g) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tsp Cuban seasoning

To serve:

  • Soft buns
  • Red Dawg Hot Sauce
  • Fresh herbs, avocado, lime wedges

Directions

  1. Rub the pork shoulder thoroughly with the Cuban seasoning.
  2. Place the pork in a slow cooker (or ovenproof casserole with lid) with the garlic, onion, orange juice, lime juice, olive oil, and chicken stock.
  3. Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours (or 3-4 hours at 160°C in the oven) until the pork is tender and pulls apart with a fork.
  4. Shred the pork and mix it back into the juices. Keep warm until ready to serve.
  5. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until softened. Add the black beans and Cuban seasoning and cook for 5-minutes until heated through.
  6. Warm the buns and serve them on a plate with the Cuban pulled pork and black beans. Let people assemble their own rolls, drizzling with the Red Dawg Hot Sauce for a hit of heat, with avocado, herbs and lime wedges on the side.
