Easy Shepherd’s Pie

A&O Ragu & Garlic Butter bring the mid-week wow factor to this simple Shepherd’s Pie, transforming it into a rich, warming, and flavour-packed meal that you can bung in the oven and leave to do its thing. No fuss or fancy steps, just hearty, satisfying food in under an hour.

For the filling:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 3 red onions, peeled and diced
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 3 celery sticks, diced
  • 2 tbsp A&O Ragu

For the topping:

  • 600g mashed potatoes
  • 50g cream cheese
  • 50g butter
  • 1 tbsp A&O Garlic Butter
  • 100g grated cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet and brown the meat until cooked through. Stir in the onions, carrots, and celery. Sprinkle generously with A&O Ragu and cook for a further 5 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, boil the potatoes until tender. Mash well, then stir in butter, cream cheese, A&O Garlic Butter, and half the cheddar cheese.
  4. Spread the meat mixture evenly into the base of a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes, smoothing into an even layer. Sprinkle with the remaining cheddar.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling. For extra crispiness, grill for 5 minutes at the end.
