King of the Q & Comp BBQ
Competition BBQ is something that will always remain close to our hearts. At the beginning of A&O we were lucky enough to compete in some amazing contests and be welcomed in to a fabulous community too!
As the business grew (and our child too) our time to get to the comps became less, but we always love seeing the teams both old and new get together so share their love for BBQ and a few drinks too, and of course battle it out for the best ribs of the day!
We would highly recommend anyone looking to try it out to grab some mates who are handy with a set of tongs and find your nearest comp and get involved. By the end of the weekend we guarantee you'll have learnt way more than you ever needed to about rib prep and parsley, you'll have a new set of buddies and a passion for comp BBQ that'll last longer than the hangover - we promise!
This year we were delighted to sponsor some prizes for the annual ProQ X Harbour brewing King of the Q Comp. Hosted by the lovely folks at Pro Q BBQ smokers on the site of Harbour Brewing it's a great combo for an epic weekend!
King of the Q is a Freestyle BBQ Competition hosted by ProQ Smokers & Harbour Brewing Company. Born out of a mutual love for fire, food, and community, this event takes a creative approach to competition BBQ. Teams have to think on their feet and be ready to improvise with what they have in a "Ready Steady Cook" fashion.
King of the Q also host a Charity Chilli Cookoff in support of Children's Hospice South West, which is judged by the public in exchange for donations.
In 2026, King of the Q hosted 8 teams, 4 of which were new to competition BBQ. This year's Grand Champions - Lekker Bru BBQ - were a first time competitor last year.
This is a great entry level comp, and we would highly recommend getting involved in next years!
