The Windmill Cast Iron Enameled Bread Baking Bowl

£125.00

There's nothing better than freshly baked bread. With the bread baking bowl, you can bake the most delicious bread in your own oven at home! This unique design creates steam during baking, allowing the bread to rise properly and develop a deliciously crispy crust.

But why is that steam so important? In a bakery, steam is added as soon as the bread dough goes into the oven. The steam creates a thin layer of water on the dough, which delays the formation of the crust. This allows the bread to rise properly during the first part of the baking time. Halfway through the baking time, the steam disappears, the bread is then properly risen, and can then be baked until crispy and golden brown. The bread baking bowl mimics this process, giving you the ideal bread baking oven for your home.

Enameled Cast Iron - Cast iron retains heat for a long time and ensures good heat transfer to the bread dough. Because the bread baking bowl is enameled, it is water-resistant, rust-free, easy to clean, and dough is less likely to stick. Traditionally, bread was baked in a cast-iron pan - the Dutch oven - using the pan as an oven. The bread baking bowl utilizes the properties and advantages of cast iron - but lets the oven do the work. The sturdy stainless steel lid knob ensures you can easily grip the lid of the bread baking bowl with oven mitts, whilst the integrated handles allow you to easily move the entire bowl.

Baking bread - To bake bread, use both the base and the lid together in the oven. Place the oven rack low in the oven and place the bread baking bowl (both the base and the lid) on the rack. Preheat the oven with the bread baking bowl for at least 30 minutes to 240°C (450°F). Use oven mitts to remove the lid from the bowl, slide the bread onto the base, and replace the lid. Reduce the oven temperature to 220-230°C (425-456°F) and bake the bread for about 20 minutes. Remove the lid with an oven mitt and bake the bread for 15-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Let the bread cool on a wire rack.
Besides the tastiest bread, you can also use the bread baking bowl for pizzas, quiches, savory pies, flatbreads, and much more. In that case, use the bowl without the lid.

The bread baking bowl on the barbecue - For the ultimate outdoor chef, nothing beats cooking in the fresh air. Now you can bake the most delicious bread at home, and on the BBQ, just as beautifully risen and crispy as the one from the bakery. How does it work? We'll explain…

Baking bread - Baking bread requires top and bottom heat, just like an oven, and it's important to be able to reach a temperature of 240°C. A barbecue with a lid, such as a Kamado or kettle barbecue, is therefore essential. It's important that the temperature remains stable, and you also want to use indirect heat so your bread cooks evenly and doesn't burn. A heat shield in your barbecue ensures this even heat distribution. It's also called a plate setter, or heat deflector. If your barbecue doesn't have a heat shield, but does have a lid, you can strategically place the coals. For example, place them along the outer edge of your barbecue or, if your barbecue is large enough, place them on the left and right sides of the barbecue so they're not directly underneath the bread-baking bowl. Make sure your air regulator is open to allow all the flue gases to escape.

Preheat - Even when using it on the barbecue, preheat the cast iron! If the heat is already in the cast iron, it's transferred directly to the dough, resulting in a much nicer, crispier result. And that's what we're aiming for!

Let's bake! - The actual baking process is no different from using it in the oven. So, you can follow the steps in your desired recipe. Depending on the type of bread you want to make, you can use the bread baking bowl with or without a lid.

The enameled bread baking bowl doesn't need seasoning, prevents dough from sticking, and is optimally protected against rust. So, maintenance is a breeze!
