Why's it salty? Because SPG starts with salt, and that's the point. Salt wakes up beef, cranks the umami, and gets the onion, pepper and garlic pulling in the same direction.
Use it like you would salt and pepper. A little goes a surprisingly long way, so no need to get carried away.
